MAA’s Spanish Club celebrates Hispanic culture, food and language through the observance of holidays; inviting guest speakers to classes; excursions to restaurants featuring typical Spanish dishes; and playing games using the language itself.

Learning from the Masters – Art in Senora Wemple’s Spanish IV Class
During the past school year Senora Wemple’s Spanish IV Class studied the countries of Latin America and Spain, highlighting the history and culture of each as well as notable political figures, activists, educators, writers, entertainers and artists. In an effort to master the Spanish vocabulary as it relates to art, the MAA class were challenged to select different artists from the Spanish-speaking countries and reproduce one of his/her paintings.
Despite the inevitable moans and groans from the students who did not think they would be capable of re-mastering the artwork of the Spanish masters, they gradually began to understand and learn the artistic concepts of focus, perspective, color, shading, lines and texture to create certain effects, tones and moods.
“Special thanks go to Sister Mary Frances and Ms. Michelle Pomierski (MAA art faculty members) for their input into this project,” noted Senora Wemple. “It didn’t take long for the class to become invested in this project, taking great pride in their efforts,” she continued.
